i gotta 9.9- about a 80`s model suzuki outboard .....well i hooked the gas line up yesterday k.
an its turning over an wanting to start an every know an then it would start up for a second, rev up, an cut off..... do u think it could be its not getting a strait flow of gas ???

Has it been sitting a while? Is it the model where you have to mix gas and oil? Was it sitting a while without starting?

It sounds to me like one of the jets in the carb is stopped up. You can soak it with a good cleaner and see if that helps get her going. If that doesn't work and you're comfortable doing it take a bristle from a wire brush and poke it in the jets of the carb to clean the gunk out. If none of those work, but she starts when you put gas in the carb (verifying it's not getting enough gas to stay running) then you should probably just take it in to get the carb cleaned.

It could be the gas line coming apart from the inside... Get a new gas line & bulb this has happened to me a time or two...

Good advice Hogie-a buddy of mine had that happen to his 75 hp just recently-mechanic said old non-ethanol resistant lines were rotting apart and little pieces of it clogged his carbs.

True..forgot about the gas line . If you unplug it and drain the contents of it in a glass you will see some black with the gas. If this is the case then replace the gas line and filter. They usually corrode from the inside out. If this is the case I hope you have a filter and it's clogged, otherwise your carb is clogged. Either way, that is the first to check.
