I.R.S. Audits of Galveston residents/Victims

A number of folks I know that have property in Galveston are being audited by the IRS for 2008 and prior years. The IRS appears to be homing in on people already victimized by Ike, NFIP and TWIA and the IRS wants records of your write-offs, most of which were destroyed by the 8' of water that inundated the island. I know of 3 people that have been hit for audit-usually I know 1 or 2 folks per year that mentioned being audited in the past. It seems to me that this is a way for the government to kick us when we already suffered much pain, loss and anguish.

One person I know advised that he heard that approximately 50% of Galveston residents will/are being audited-bullchit maybe, but if not, action to our senators and reps must be taken. The Katrina victims are still on the dole, but not Ike victims and how many Katrina "victims" are or have been audited? Did those POS Katrina victims pay taxes for the "Gummint Credit Cards" issued so they could buy Louis Vuitton Purses?

Please speak up here if you are a IRS "Audit Victim of Ike". I am already advising my friends being hit with audit to write the Senators and ask how are they supposed to "create" lost documents-is the IRS asking us to lie and forge documents, which effectively constitiutes tax fraud? Any advice?

I am just aghast at how we are now being treated after suffering substantial losses, underpaid insurance and now being attacked by the IRS.

I would imagine they are auditing them because of the write-offs they took from the damage robalo; wouldnt you believe? The IRS were allowing it $ for $ no matter your income.

On the advise from my guys, I didnt write off a dammmm thing because of the attention it brings. Its not worth it.

I emailed Kay Bailey Hutchinson and asked her why IRS is after Ike vistims and HTHeck we can produce receipts for items when those were destroyed by Ike. I think it's pure unadulterated GD BS that folks are getting kicked while they are down-my CPA said I needed original cost basis/receipts for each lost item-my GD house would look like a hamster cage if I kept every GD receipt over the years for every farging thing I lost in Ike. No I aint being audited, but I do have an asterisk next to my name since I was married to an IRS employee almost 20 farging years ago, which effectively is a bullseye on my chest. I hope to hear from Sen. Hutchinson, since I know when Senators ask the IRS questions, they jump just like a private to orders from a drill sargent (per ex-wife). I also asked if katrina POS were under IRS scutiny since apparently Ike victims certainly are.
