Anyone have anything good, bad or indifferent to say about them?

Looking to replace mine considering that I lost it, another rod/reel and the rest of my gear when my buddies boat capsized about 7:30 pm a week ago Wed evening west of Sea Isle. Long story (and a longer night) cut short, we were rescued by the Coast Guard near Alligator Pt about 8:30 the next morning. Cant afford to replace everything all at once but want to start.

Any way back to my question, since this happened I have since heard some grumblings from some people telling me that they wont hold up in the salt and to stay away from them. So anyone have any expirences? I only fished mine once and liked it, but dont want to go back down that road if it wont hold up. If anyone is looking to sell some extra gear, I might be interested in going that route too.

Thanks for any info in advance.

Man, that's a messed up situation for sure. I wasn't far away. You gotta tell more of that story.

As far as the reel, since I'm from East of the Sabine, I'll just say that the darn thing is upside down and sideways from the way a reel should be.

Well we were headed back into Sea Isle about 7:30pm when a wave literally lifted me off the front live well seat of the center console and tossed me on top of my head between the center console and the side of the boat. I was half out of the boat and couldn't get up between the wave action and the water pressure of the boat moving pushing against me. The sudden weight shift caused the boat to list so my buddy turned the opposite way while another tried to help me back in. Another wave came across the same side I was on and just fliped us. We rode the hull until about 4. Looking at the fishing lights from Sea Isle (2 big sodium lights that were on when we went out) and the power plant behind us I thought we were near Alligator Pt. Water was about waist deep then and I figured that if we went on into Chocolate Bay we might be in trouble as far as someone finding us sooner rather than later. We tried to signal 4 or 5 tugs, but they didnt see us. We walked to shore and waited out the night. Signaled the first tug at day break and was picked up by the Coast Guard our of Freeport about 8:30 am. Long night for sure, but I really think that it was just one of those freak things. Everything had to go right for no one to be hurt of killed and God defnitely had his hand on us that night. Learned a few lessons. Im going to make a "dry" box tethered to the side of my boat with flares, flash lights, cell phone ect.

Well I say tethered cause good as you think you know your or your buddies boat when its upside down, dark, stuff shifting around from flipping and wet its easy to get very disorientated. When diving for life vest and what ever else I could find, things just weren't where they should have been or where I thought they were. If tethered to the side grab rail... find the knot or rope and pull out the box (hopefully).
