What a very strange trip it was. I hit the ramp at 11:30 and got out to the camp in short order, save for all the boats anchored in the Titlum-Tatlum channel. I took my time surveying the work from the past week. The place was a real mess, but the good news was that we had plenty of crabs in the traps and we're also ready to start putting the wall and ceiling panels up in the bedrooms. Primer and Redstikr showed up and we started cleaning up a bit after a little front porch sittin'. While that was proceeding, Primer got to culling the crabs and I got the boil hot.

We had a good dozen or more nice blues and 6 stone crabs with huge claws. The boil turned out great. For the first time in a while, I got everything just right. 2112 and his buddy John showed as soon as the crabs were ready and we got to some serious front porch sittin'. The winds were whippin' and it made fishing kind of a passe' idea. We thought about hitting the weigh in, but I didn't want to fight the wind. As the sun encroached upon us, we moved to the side porch and had some good times. Bert brought me a new radio for the camp and boy is it a nice one. It's one of those radios that can pick up every band. Can't wait to play with it. Thanks Bert! While we did this, I messed with my old crab traps and managed to cobble one good one together out of the 3 old ones we had. So now we have 4 in good repair.

As the sun faded, I got the Old Smokey goin' and threw the ribs on, then I fried some chicken legs. Bert got into the act as well. Flatoutfishin' had given me this jalapeno iron for grilling stuffed japs. I had never used it thus far, but Bert had some homegrown japs and he stuffed them with habanero cheese and sausage. They were good, but there was quite a heat factor. I drooled for about 10 minutes. The ribs were good, but not fantastic.

After supper, Bert, Primer, and John headed out in the gale to attempt to stick something. They didn't try too long before it became evident they were not going to have any luck. Everyone eventually faded, except me and Bert. At 4:15 we decided to take another ride and see if we could stick something. DUH. It was fun anyway. I crashed into bed at 5:15 thinking about all we would get done with the place the next day.

I awoke at 9am and frantically began breakfast. Everyone but me was out fishing and I wanted to have it ready when they got back. We had accidentally used all the taters in the boil, so I had to get inventive. I cooked the bacon and made a bunch of toast, then I made some pancakes too. When it was almost ready, I called Bert and got no answer. So I called Primer and he said he was at home already! I thought he was kidding me, but I looked around and indeed all their stuff was gone. Apparently Bert and John had left as well. Everyone had bailed on me. I felt like maybe I had messed up and acted like an arse or something. At least I had Fat Albert.

So I fed the seagulls with most of the breakfast, let about a dozen and a half crabs go, and got to cleaning up and organizing. It seemed like I got a lot done, but when 7pm rolled around I looked around and it didn't look like I had done a dad gum thing. The kitchen is at least coming together nicely. I got outta there and chased the sun back to Angleton.

I don't know if I can make it out at all next weekend. It's going to be a madhouse out there. I'm hoping for Sunday, but that may not happen.

Coach, I gotta ask, are you keeping a journal of all these 'wkend summaries'? I think you should at least start one if you havent already.

Looking forward to the 2nd wkend in June.

I keep one at the camp, but I only get to write in it every once in a while. I post one here every week and before FWE, I posted them on another small site. I'd have had time to write in it this time if my crew hadn't turned out to be deserters. When they're caught they'll be hanged from the yardarm.

Primer, when you gonna take your lights home? Your maglite is in my duffel bag.

I bet it'll be a zoo out there. How about weekend after next? Man, been a while since I've seen/run crab traps.

I'll pencil you in SCHU. This coming weeekend is a tough proposition for me. Yes, it will be a madhouse out there for sure. I'm supposed to go to a graduation party on Saturday at 5pm. I'm trying to formulate a plan that has me out there on Friday evening, then leave at 3pm on Saturday, then come back after the party. It depends on having someone out there that can drop me off at the ramp and pick me up later. If I can pull that off, I'll stay 'til Sunday. I do not have off on Memorial Day.

This deserter will make up for it in spades if you give me a day you will be out there this weekend if at all.
Man, I want you to know...I had a big time and feel healed!
Ask Tom. I've bailed on him before in the early hours too. I can't splain it, just gotta go sometimes! I'm either snoring till noon or bolting at first light. I guess you gotta chain my rig to the dock. LOL!
Oh, I fixed my port light with a Halogen, will see how it works out and if its better I'll do the whole system that way. The new gig is a jewel, TY!
