  • Experience Nature Day

It started this morning while I was fishing and I see two coyotes walking down the bank stalking shore birds. Then later this morning while I'm stalking trout in shallow, something huge slowly lifts up in the knee deep water and glides by. This stingray was the largest I have ever seen in the water. It looked as big as a truck hood!
This evening me and a buddy went for a wade. About the second cast he says he sees about a four foot shark. Then he hooks up and I'm thinking he has the shark, but it's a nice trout. He knew not to bring it all the way in, and sure enough, the shark blows up on the fish and takes skitterwalk and all. While I'm watching this I hook up with a trout and another shark gets it. We never had another blow up.

Saw an otter in Titlum on Saturday coming back from the boil.

I can attest to that...and especially on the third day!

I was fishing an all nighter alone last summer in Yates Bayou under a full moon when I saw a disturbance on the opposite bank and something came at me not 15 feet off my kayak and past me. It looked like an underwater space ship as it had little lights going around in a circle on the outside rim of the thing. I figured that it was an about 5 foot across ray with phosphorescent plakton making the lights. It was WEIRD.

I forgot about the sea turtles! I saw this kind of white face pop up past the anchored boat. Then it popped up again. I thought ....that looks like a lemur.
I think it was a small hawksbill turtle.

Wow........if I see one of those creatures each time I go wading I can deal with it...but not all of them mentioned in the same day ! Days like that would have me slowly shuffling back to the boat with the beer cooler...
