when i bank fish i go to the hidden part of highland bayou and there seems to be way more redfish than trout so when i fish lures for trout i have way less luck than the people who fish live bait. I decided to start throwing spoons so i can catch more redfish but will a trout hit a gold spoon or does it have to be silver.

I have never tried spoons on trout yet but i have limited out many times on 3" clear with silver seckles cocahoe minnows & on 4" Salt water Assassin SLV.PH/CHART.TL Sea Shad. so in theory silver spoons should work. But i always save my spoons for the Reds thats why i have never tried spoons on trout.

Gold or silver/chart. in the marsh (stained water), silver in the surf (clear water). Been using them for as long as I have been fishing. Caught one of the biggest trout on a gold spoon.
but will a trout hit a gold spoon or does it have to be silver.
LOL they just hit what they think is food, doesn't matter what color it is.

IMO the best spoon for shallow water presentation is the krocodile by luhr jensen. Has a great side to side wobble which allows the spoon to be fished very shallow. I have been fishing this spoon for many years in the choco bay system targeting mainly reds, but have caught my share of trout and the occasional flounder. Also, if this spoon becomes tarnished you can bring the luster back with a little Brasso...

1/4 oz gold Johnson sprite. I've caught more slot reds on that than any other lure out there.
A slow, steady retrieve intermixed with pauses and twitches of the rod tip is the best retrieve for the reds...most of the time. Just play with it, you'll find out what they want eventually if they're in the area."If our father had his say, nobody who did not know how to catch a fish would be allowed to disgrace a fish by catching him."
