I have the same thing -- I'm sure there's better stuff out there for free. I'm not the least bit computer literate though.. Maybe we'll both learn something!!

You can get it from here. Click on the free edition one.

              uninstall the old one first.

I use avg and have no problems. Just search avg free or go to avg.com and download the free version.

McAffee and norton are both very big programs that take a lot of computing power to run. I use a program called eset that works great. I dont remember how much it costs but it can be downloaded. Do a google search for eset, or free antivirus software.

Don't get anything cheap, it will bit you in the long run. I have been in the computer industry for a long time, so trust me, get a good product like Norton or McAfee.

As a Security Engineer by trade, I'll give y'all a little advice to use as you see fit. Free or cheap antivirus softwares are problems waiting to happen. Most if not all do not keep their Virus Signatures up-to-date and do not give you full coverage. What we recommend to NASA folks for their home computers is:

Symantec AntiVirus - It does a really good job at protecting you and is configurable so you don't have to do a lot of manual things once it is installed.

SpyBot Search & Destroy - This is the only free product that we recommend. This protects you from the bots that AntiVirus softwares are not looking for. It is manual so you will need to run it at least once per week. You will also have to manually go out for signature updates at least once per month.

Between the two of these you will be fully covered. If anyone ever has any computer security related questions, hit me up and I'll be more than happy to help.
