Auto mechanic

Took her to a mechanic close by. He said the throttle body needs to be pulled and the ports cleaned. And the MAP sensor is bad, telling the computer the truck is at a higher altitude than it actually is. Which i'm sure changes the air;fuel mixture causing it to run rich and stink. Also there may be smaller underlying problems but these are the big two.

Thanks for the suggestions.We have replaced the plugs,wires(cheap still suspect),coil ,ignition control module,rotor,rotor cap,throttle position sensor.Even pulled and checked control module twice.The O'Reilley people said it has just enough computer controls to be STUPID.But with 200,000 miles she has a right to be a little cranky.It does have an obdll port.No check engine light on.Were at a loss on what to try.I may carry it to get a mechanic to do a diagnostic check.I really hope it's not the throttle body.After market cost is $900 ,oe is $1300.ugh

If the check engine light is on its thrown a code to the computer.Auto Zone has a scan tool you can use to diagnose the code. Just a suggestion? I was a Tech many years, could be a EGR valve also. Need to find the source of the code.

If it is, I would say the same, the 4.3 and 5.7 in those years use alot of the same parts....

I was gonna guess its a 93 Chevy w a 5.7k motor (throttle body). If so the TPS or Fuel Pressure reg. may be the issue....just throwing that out there.

My guess is at 1993 Ford F150. Prolly EFI

Not sure if his truck is ODBII (data port). Might need a real mechanic to look at it.

Take it to any Autozone and they'll hook it up to their diagnostic machine for free.

Leave the battery unplugged over night and try to start it the following morning

One thing that I thought of, if you have a bad map sensor that could hase your truck to act like it needs more fuel or lean out to the point that is stalls. With your truck being 17 years old I beleive it might not have this sensor on there since it prolly carbed.

Sounds like it could be a crank position sensor or the cam position sensor. One of those went out on my wifes mercedes suv and we thought it was the ignition at first then the fuel pump. Ended up having to replaced a $50 sensor and having to get re-leared by a shop(Cam position sensor)

Wifes car would act like the battery was bad or if it had no fuel. after a while it would start.

Mine starts yes but it won't keep running without assistance until it warms up.
