I second the motion for a double cab. I bought a used '07 dodge ram and love it. The extra space makes a world of difference when you are packing all your gear in for a trip. Especially if you are going on long trips. My truck has a 6 foot bed, but all my poles fit fine if i put them in diagonally. If you are worried about them getting damaged slide them inside a piece of PVC pipe, that should protect them.

Open beds of trucks with rods in them are an invite for thieves-I even had SOBs steal from boats pulled up at Sea isle marina years ago during one of my fishing T's while 70 folks were there-they have no conscience and don't care and got balls and no brains-I would not leave any rods in truck bed-another good reason to have double cab or extended cab-sorry POS thieves."Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

I would never leave my rods/tackle in the bed while at a store. One option I'm looking at is a nice bed cover. I think that would solve most of my problems, I don't haul a lot of people around so the cab space for passengers is not an issue for me. I'm definitely still looking at extended/crew cabs.

IMO, get at least an extended cab. That way you will have room inside if the weather turns bad. I had an F-250 extended cab and loved it until I bought an F-350 crew cab. I will never have anything else. I know you have a budget, but get the most room you can. You will not be sorry. Why put off doing something today, when you can do it again tomorrow. LIKE FISHING!!

Definately get the at least the extended cab, the crew if you can...got 221k on my 2003 F150 SuperCrew no major repairs...just brakes, tires, shocks...
I have the 5.4 Triton engine, pulls a 3500lb+ Boston Whaler with no problem...gets 16/20 (not towing the boat
); so buying a truck with 100k miles these days can still be a good deal if you get the right motor...they seem like they last a lot longer than they used to...if you want good mileage keep the Honda!

I have a double cab Tundra 5.7 litre with 6 speed auto 4x4. I almost hate to admit it but its the best gas truck I've ever owned. My bud has the new big gas hemi and niether truck can pull on the other in a race. These Tundras have big balls and are under rated.
They are also closer to a 3/4 ton than a 1/2 ton...Think Chevys old "Heavy Half".
Toyota...Moving you forward, even if you don't want to! LOL!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro
Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

I'm telling you...a hard bed cover will be a great investment with the double cab like I said above if you can afford it, man. Don't let your expensive rod and reels bang around in the bed. Put them in the cab or get a travel rod holder for the bed...can't have the reels on unless you have a protective covering for them.Originally posted by TTU Wader View PostI would never leave my rods/tackle in the bed while at a store. Bad thing about a hard bed cover is that it makes it really difficult to utilize the bed for anything taller than the cover.
covers Plugger? Man y'all really baby those upside down sideways bass reels here in Texas don't y'all?

http://www.houstonautoauction.com/ Whenever we need a truck for a good price we usually go there and pick up one... some of them last a good while but some also crap out.. they usually auction off company trucks w/ highway miles.

Well, ye-ah , I baby my $400 rod/reel combo, Sandy. You don't have to worry with such things, I know, using your Zebco 33 combo .Originally posted by coachlaw View PostBad thing about a hard bed cover is that it makes it really difficult to utilize the bed for anything taller than the cover.
