Single Cab Truck

I've been looking into getting a truck, I just can't decided between a single or double cab. I really like dodge rams but I can't find a double cab that is in my price range. One question I have is those of you that have a single cab truck, can you fit your fishing rods in it? I really don't want to throw them in the bed if I end up going with the single cab. Anyone have any pros/cons against rams? That 5.7 liter hemi is going to be a little different than my little honda civic lol.

I'll not own another single cab truck after going to the double. Unless I get another '69 Chevy that is.

I'm a dodge guy for sure. Pretty sure they are still offering a lifetime warranty on the engine and drive train also. You might have a squeeze if your trying to get a 7' rod in a single cab though. I bought my 06 brand new in December 06. If you can wait till the fall or the end of the year -- that is the time to pick up a new one. By that time they already have the new year models on the lot and are trying to get rid of last years model. Mine stickered for around 34k and I got it for 21.

All my rods are 6'6. And I'm only looking at used vehicles. My budget is around 10k. Those new ones look pretty nice, ahhh maybe one day haha.

I have a single cab super duty and wish I'd gotten the extended cab. Don't need the full double, but do need some space to put things like fishing and huning gear other than the bed.

I recommend a 4 door any day over a single cab. You wont regret it. I have a 2000 F250 super crew ford Diesel 4x4 with 310,000 mile. never had any major issues and still rolling. Has never left me stranded or stuck or not been able to pull someone out. Back seat is really nice for sleeping in. Just fire her up turn on the AC and radio and sleep all night. Tows everything including your mother in law.

What kind of gas mileage do you get?

I have the 4.7L V8 -- gets about 19 or 20 on the hwy and 16 to 17 around town. The Hemi's aren't much different if you can keep your foot out of it

Their making one now that drops out cylinders that are not needed at hyw speed. Not sure what that option costs though.

Whatever one you get make sure you invest in a K&N air filter for it. You can definitely tell the mileage difference.

Yeah, I'm guessing the hemi will get around 14 in the city. The double cabs are nice but I can't find one without 100k miles. I'm willing to sacrifice space for an engine with less miles. Also, my dad has a double cab silverado so if I ever need the space I can swap trucks with him. I still have some researching to do and a little bit of test driving. I appreciate the feedback, if anyone has any other tips let me know! I'm definitely not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to trucks.

get a jeep!! haha. Man I would save up for an extended cab. I think you would get tired of a single cab real quick. NO room inside. You go on a long weekend trip and put all your bags inside, you wont have room for another person. just a thought

I'm with Corndog on the Superduties. Besides I couldn't buy a Dodge or Chevy knowing they took that bail out money from Obama. My F350 diesel 4x4 has 200K and going strong and if you do a lot of towing that is what you need. If you are only towing your boat, gas works, I guess....

Ditto XtremeAngler. If you do anything outdoors or any kind of traveling, you will be glad you have an extended cab.

I wouldn't do Dodge. I wouldn't go single cab-minimum extended cab or crew. Make sure you get an inspection/go over before buying anything. New to you is used to the seller and usually a reason-sometimes to upgrade, but a lotta times due to issues/repairs.

Double cab for sure...once you get one you'll be thinking to yourself that you are sure glad you did as you pile gear in the back with the seats turned up. Unless you get a bed cover, some things you just don't want in the bed exposed to rain, highway speeds and and sticky fingers when you pop into the convenience store for something. I know you are on a budget, but my hard bed cover is priceless. Everything in the above is unseen and locked up. And it makes the truck more aerodynamic and sharp looking. I bought a new 2001 Dodge 4x4 offroad and had nothing but trouble with it. My daughter drives it now because it got to a point where I had put so much money in it for repairs, that all the new parts were worth more than what I could sell it for. The transmission went out at 100,000 miles...my mechanic said all the dodge trucks did that...now they tell me. That's probably why they have a 100,000 mile warrenty on them now. But, that was a 2001...maybe they have improved since then. All I know is I wouldn't buy another one. My wife has a 2005 suburban and it just purrs along, never sank money into it. Big diesels are heavy, not good if you run down the beach for fishing.
