  • question about tide variation

So, we are headed down to Tiki island for mother's day weekend and i checked the tides and it looks like there is very little variation between high and low tide. on average it looks like high tide is .8 and low tide is .5. I have only been down there a few times and the tide seem to fluctuate a foot or better.

wonder how the fishing in Jones bay should be under these conditions. we normally catch fish around the lights at night, but i want to catch some during the day as well. I normally yak around the canals and have not ventured out to deer island or the north side of jones lake yet. any thoughts are tips would be great.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Sounds like a standing high tide day pretty much. Beats a low tide all day. I don't fish Jones-too shallow and far for me. Yaking should work in those areas, keying on bait, water color and shorelines and reefs.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. My two cents!!! If you do not get a chance to fish like Jerry (Robalo) and I do, which is on a weekly basis, go out there regardless of the tide and just find bait and have a good time! I would be more concerned about the wind if you are yaking.

the wind i'm more use to from local area fresh water lakes, the tides and all this shallow water is what really gets me...

Learning to fish down there is like starting over.

High tide is OK for reds, but helps if it is moving. Fish the N and W shoreline of Jones and work the marsh areas with tops, paddle tails, tops, Spinnerbaits, tops....or just tops!

Narrow cuts through shell/land, points, can create miny tides for ambush points that a yakker can get to that boaters cannot. Alot depends on the weather then, but with a standing tide and hopefully SE wind pushing water into the bay , trout, reds , and flounder will often be way up in the marsh where a kayak is perfect to access. In that situation, hugging the shore and going up channels in Jones, Galveston State Park, Christmas and such places could be good.
