Preferred line-to-leader knot?

Hands down the Uni! Have used it very succesfully for years with conventional gear and for building fly leaders. The albright is very good as mentioned for greater differential in line to leader, where the Uni may not work as well. Bimini twist or similar line doubling knot will work if you need to transition from light line to much heavier leader. If you are going to use a swivel, buy the highest quality, smallest swivel that tests to the strength that you need. Most fishing rod guides will only tolerate a swivel clanking through them so many times before they fail and the ring cracks or breaks loose from the guide frame.

Only use a leader when I'm fishing braid...uni to uni or allbright special...they both work good and both a are easy to tie once you've done it few times. If had to pick one would go with the uni...I usually put about 2 rod lengths of 20lb fluorocarbon (Seaguar is easiest to tie) to 30lb power pro...you can fish half a dozen times before putting on a new leader if you are judicious with you leader to lure connections...

...................You can tie your leader on either way, they both work. Some use a small spro swivel tied to about 18" of leader. The uni knot is a good knot, but for lines of unequal diameter, I use an Allbright knot. You can make your leader anywheres from 18" to 6', as the knot will easily pass thru the guides.

I like the uni to uni because it's easy to tie, even while wading. Also, beginning to use the Red Phillips knot when fishing w/braid.

Yes and the Bimini twist as well. Never had one Bimini come apart either.
