  • The Womack weekend at Blockade Runners

This past weekend at Blockade Runners was indeed special. With the exception of a missing brother and nephew, the entirity of the male Womacks were at the camp. I know they all have a story to tell, and our neighbors down the bayou have a story as well. There are a lot more pics out there. Perhaps TwoMack will actually make a post on this thread and add some in.

It was a real treat to have Tres' son, brother, dad, and nephews out there. I know I had a great time cookin' for everyone and even ferrying people back and forth. The music was excellent and y'all really made Allan and Debbie's time out there special as well. I loved hearing Tres and his brother Tim play the guitar and mandolin.

It would be tough for me to put it all together in a true report because there was so much going on all the time. I'll rely on any of them to register here and chime in, that way they can tell their part of the story.

I will tell y'all that I stayed out there until midnight Sunday night. The music and fun was just so good. Unfortunately it meant that I had to make my way in during a rain shower, then I had to get through a tough Monday with just a few hours of sleep. I'm still recovering, but it was all worth it.

    Here come the pics.

    1. The patriarch of the family, Tom Womack
    2. An artistic shot by Lynne (VJER's wife)
    3. Lynne and Vic do some front porch sittin'. It was her first visit ever to the camp.
    4. The pirogue gets some use.
    5. The Ugly Mudda rides again.

        4. Tim and Eric Womack all the way from Los Angeles.

            Last batch

            Here's the last batch

Tim and Tres play the mandolin and guitar. They played some old Sons of the Desert stuff as well as some of Tres' new stuff, along with selections from the audience. Tres' son Cris figured a way to use an ice chest as a drum. It was really a time I'll never forget. You can't buy a ticket to this.

The fishing was steady, but keepers were slow. I'd say 10 keeper trout, 1 keeper red, 3 keeper flounder, and 3 keeper drum with some nice size whiting and a few croaker in the mix. Crabs were scarce, unlike before the cold snap. Only two keepers out of 5 traps in 2 days.

I think all the crabs are over in Surfside/Freeport area in the ICW and the Brazos

Not my kinfolk mind you. Though I am sort of an adopted part of the family. TwoMack (Tres) was my high school coach. Allan is our neighbor down the bayou in the Salt Cedars (Former location of the Moody Lodge.)
