  • Galveston Tackle Shop?

Me and my Dad always talk about opening a more specialty tackle shop on the west end of Galveston. basically a small scale version of FTU. Only carrying the things we now serious anglers buy.
But we don't know if the business would be there what do yall think?

I think it would do OK, but there is more business off the island than on it. All the guys that I know that live there would probably be there constantly. You would only be competing with Academy and the bait shops, so if you carry specialty stuff, there wouldn't be any competition.

I know I'd be checking you all out. But with all of the insurance issues, etc, on the west end for a business, that could be critical. If you could sell out of your house or your garage, that might work. Just a thought.

Whet kind of "specialty tackle" you talking about? The bait camps all have some tackle, even Seven Seas has tackle. There's just not enough traffic on the West end to support a tackle store. The commercial real estate is also super expensive. Heck Chris Islander tackle (Serious Tackle) couldn't make it on the island.

I live on the west end and definitely would shop there as long as you don't double the price like everything else on the west end

X2 on what Kenny said. It would be tough, especially with Academy not too far down the road.

Like academy doesn't have Daiwa sol's or the new coastal zillion. Castaway skeleton rods a few simms products waterloo salinity line etc.. I think your your right we'd have a handful of regular's but thats not enough so support a business.

you'd also have on line competition for big ticket items that have some of the best prices, no taxes and delivers to my door.

I dont believe you'd do a good business on the West End in that line of a product. Most of your would be customers down here are gonna buy the simple basic stuff and there arent many of those come Nov. Dec. Jan and feb.

What some of the others have said and JT is on the money.........winter is tough on the west end. JT has a great business model but a " specialty " tackle store is a very different nut to crack.....even in Houston.
