  • Picture to metal

I've got a pic printed out (wish it wasn't so pixelated but I think it will do just fine) that I would like to seal to a piece of sheet metal. Any ideas? We've got some clear epoxy that goes on furniture that is water resistant. Will this work? I printed the pic out on photopaper like you would get from walgreens if you went and had pictures developed. Will the epoxy smear the colors?
    Just lookin for some help.

Use an artists matting stick spray-comes in a spray aerosol can and sprays a thin layer of sticky glue. Epoxy is no good and will soak through. I forgot the name of the stuff but any art supply store should have it.

Whatever you're doing, it don't sound like it'll be permanent unless framed and covered-I would think it will eventually peel off or discolor so you may just want to use a proper art backing and frame.

"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. I'm wanting to seal the picture in. And it will for sure fade but I hope it takes some time.

Gee, Primer, maybe Kenny could help ya-I think the spray aerosol was called "Spray Mount"-about the size of a hairspray can-it would probably work much better than epoxy-epoxy will soak through and stain your picture. try the Spray mount-I knew I'd remember for a certain reason.......

If you use any glue, it'll likely soak through also. Draftsmen used the spray mount stuff to stick items to their maps before autocad existed.

You may want to apply a clearcoat over it?? Someone here will know how to do that-I'd worry that any "wet" coating will soak and stain the picture.

Then I'd not "coat" it with anything and use the Spray Mount-ya spray that stuff on the metal and apply pic to it-do not spray the paper print and don't overcoat it-that stuff is sticky as heck and should hold it pretty well-basically it's glue in an aerosol can.

R&D is what it will take.
You could also experiment with several coats of acrylic matt medium on a photo. Let dry well, then soak off the paper. You should end up with a transparency to mount. Try printing the photo on onion skin/tissue paper maybe.

Yeah, spray mount or M77 on the back of the picture and mask off the same size spot on the metal and spray glue. Carefully assemble because it won't move once it's stuck somewhere.
Do a test first using another photo on some scrap metal to see how it works!
I'd try sealing a test photo with oil base spray varnish, then lacquer base, then try clear shellac(alcohol base). if they all smear then try the water base acrylic matt medium....
Or print the photo in high contrast black& white on a 8X 10 acetate. take it to a silk screen place and have a photo screen made and print it directly on the metal!

Well, i'm thinking imma just stick it to the metal with the spray adhesive. The item I would hope would be inside and out of 100% to cause it to fade. I think it should last if kept indoors.
