Really sorry to hear that Kenny. I hope they reimburse you. I saw them out there as well. I ran north about 400 yards and hugged Shell Island. Did not want to take any chances.

The GLO website probably has something about the project under the coastal erosion heading. The Army Corp. and /or TP&W may also have something listed about the project.
They're doing more estuary building/wetlands remediation.
According to Mr. Elms @ Apollo they are going to do some terracing (build islands) like in Jumbile and plant grass."GET OFF MY REEF!"

Glad to see that the contractor has put out markers as per GLO.
Sorry about my earlier post ... I am more familiar with 24 to 30 inch dredge pipe that floats above water on pontoons ... they are HUGE ... and those are rarely marked at least in my area. If you hit an 80-foot pipe section of maybe 5 tons at full throttle there wouldn't be much boat to find!
And Small Bites was right ... submerged or partially submerged pipes or cables used in marine construction must be clearly market with day and night markers, my bad. If buried, each end of the pipe must be posted and recorded on the latest nautical charts.
There should also be a USCG Notice to Mariners about this but I couldn't find it.

Thanks Kenny,
Here are the details from GLO. I guess it can be good in the long run but bad for floundering the coming year.
The Texas Coastal Program assisted the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department with the Jumbile Cove Project, which is located on the north shore of Galveston Island and adjacent to the City of Jamaica Beach. The goal of this project is protect 35 acres of intertidal marsh, 18 acres of tidal flats, and restore ~15 acres of intertidal marsh. Approximately 15 acres of marsh will be restored by raising bay bottom elevations to levels which support intertidal marsh vegetation (Spartina alterniflora). The vegetation provides habitat to a variety of finfish and shellfish which inhabitat the Bay and Gulf of Mexico , as well as provide detritus which is the base of the food chain. Additionally, in 2003 colonial waterbirds successfully nested on the crowns of several bare mounds.

I do feel bad for you Kenny having to deal with all the BS getting it resolved........and it's not just a monetary thing , it' lost time off the water doing what you like to do until your rig is repaired.....and you can't put a value on that...hope the outcome is quick and proper !" What's good for me ain't necessarily good for the weak minded ."

That sux Kenny, good to see you were not hurt. I have been stearing way clear of thier operation since I first saw them there. Every since I hit a dredge pipe in the ICW in Matagorda about 10 years ago I have been very careful running in a dredge area ever since. Good luck trying to get them to compensate.
On a side note, I cant wait to fish that cove once there done. Those geo tubes will off great protection on a north or west wind.

They're going to terrace (build islands) and plant grass. No new tubes are planned there. There will probably be an opportunity later to plant cord grass.Originally posted by aqua pimp View PostThat sux Kenny, good to see you were not hurt. That will work too.... Will that be kinda like the small islands they built on the back side of Omega Bay in Highlands Bayou?

I'm happy to report that the dredging general contractor Apollo Environmental is keeping their word and paying for all the repairs. I really appreciate a company that takes responsibility and does the right thing....it seems to be a rare thing these days!
My boat should be home by Thursday or Friday and man will I be glad!!!
