  • Baffin Bay

    Hey guys,

Going down to baffin on the 20th of this month. For the people that have fished baffin. What kind of lures and colors do you recommend to fish with? Going to try to catch some good trout.

Mostly the same as you would use up here, but depends on your fishing style. For wading shallow, throw tops, spook and spook Jr. Deeper, throw the BA or similar plastic of your preference, or if you have found some better fish, bust out the Corky or catch 2.

Are you going it on your own or with a guide? If fishing with a Guide, I would ask for his preferences, he will know what works and doesn't.

Soft plastics - Saltwater Assassins. I used both pumpkinseed and native shrimp and I was on them pretty consistently, but that was years ago. If you've got a guide, ask him what to buy. I did and it paid dividends. I've never used a Corky and I've been underwhelmed with the topwater thing. But the Corky buzz is undeniable and if you like the topwater thing, to each their own. You will have a lot of hangups on the rocks. After a while, I went with a DOA shrimp under a cork and it was good, then I went with my old standby for trout, tandem rigged Cocahoe Minnows. I was nabbing 2 at a time. Our guide was Capt. Aubrey Black. He was absolutely tops. I've never fished with him, but Captain Donk is a great guy too and I've never heard anything negative about him.
From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

I'd fish stuff that you don't mind breaking off.

You will need a healthy supply of Corkies to fish with that man. He's a big trout assassin!! Make sure that you fish either braid or use a 30 # Flourocarbon leader, those rocks can be very hard on fishing line and Corkies ain't cheap these days. I would still pack some top waters, but I think that he prefers floating corkies. Don't overlook the shalllow water, like less than a foot, expecially if you see the mullet bouncing.

I hope that you guys have a great time down there!

I took everything when we went with Jesse a month back, all I used was Corky's and my topwater stuff. Jesse uses 50lb Fins Braid, don't want to lose a gooden there.
I am actually gonna fish with him next week, 16th and 17th, I'll give ya a report

I guess we are going to have to take some corkies and top water lures with us then. Good luck next week Nwilkins. Will be looking foward to your report next week. Thanks for all of your help guys.
