  • Weekend 3/5-3/7

Got down to Sea Isle around 4:00. Now that I have a slip at the marina in Sea Isle I am able to get out a lot quicker since I don't have to launch. Immediately headed across the bay against the nasty wind blowing east southeast. Wanted to go back a couple favorite spots I haven't been to in a month or two in Karankawa. Tide started to move through which set p my spot pretty good. Managed to pop a real nice red around 26" that looked like it ate a football. About thirty minutes later I caught another going 21". I was throwing my favorite pumpkin seed tout with chartruse tail. Figured I would crash my home across the bay where the wind continued to pick up. As I was halfway there I saw a large group of birds hammering the water. Turned the boat and headed straight in to them. As I got closer I could see the bait coming out of the water and now I am pumped thinking I am going to kill some trout. I putter up, cut the motor, grab the rod, stand up front, rear back to cast, and THWANG!!!!!!!! I was so worked up I wrapped that tout around the cb antenna and produced what cold be the largest back lash in the long history of West Bay. I truly thought about sending the reel into Stanford so that the egg heads could practice some quantum physics on this one.

Finally got home, cleaned the reds, threw em on the grill half shelled. I was now able to laugh at myself and the crappy backlash. Oh, and no throats.

Next morning I went out again and drifted snake island cove a couple of times but nada. No bait out either. Went in.

Back out that afternoon around 4:30. Back to Snake Island Cove. Again, nothing happening. Made to deeper water when I picked up a rat red. About thirty minutes later the bite was on. Wound up with another trout and five reds with one of the others being a throwback. Lost another REAL nice red at the boat as it ran under the prop cutting the line. It was a blast though as he and I went back and forth for a good while. Caught a trout and a red on the same colored tout and the others in live shrimp.

Went out for a couple hours this morning to the same spot and nothing. Lots of mullet jumping around but no takers.

Oh, by the way, two of the mullet jumped and asked to say Hi to Michelle.

Very cool! Sounds like you're getting a lot of worth out of the slip.
