            great job on the release!

just curious though, how come they were released so small? would there be a better survival rate if they are released when they grow a little bit larger?

Generally you release fish when they are this small or smaller, there is no place to keep them when they get bigger.

Gererally the surival rate is about 10% with Reds and Specs, but this is so new with the flounder it will be hard to say for some years.

Keep in mind, this program is only in it's first steps, and this is the 1st release in Galveston.

There will be more for galveston this year. Proably between 3K - 6K more.

You are just seeing the start, and the biologist are still doing studies.

                    Great, great news.

Now if we can just by back all of the shrimping licesnse and make the flounder a certified "game fish", we'll really start to see some huge increases in population density.

Game fish = no gigging .... a long Texas tradition ....

What we need is more regulations on the commercial harvest ....

Congrats on the first historic release. I am a member of SCA, and I remember the first days when we were negotiating our first license. The day it closed, it really made you proud of the time and effort spent on the endeavor. The folks who have supported your efforts appreciate your dedication to the goal. Keep it up. Congratulations and here's to the next release! - David

Great to see this finally happen here in Texas, I'm not positive but I think south carolina has been releasing flounder fry for at @ 10 years now if I'm not mistaken. THANKS for your work Mudskipper!!! Oh mudskipper, why so many more released in Sabine. Something to do with Chester? Still glad Galveston got what it did but,, if the 10 percent survival rate is accurate the 300 flounder is what oceankayaker 84(flounder guru) catches in a year.

Thanks for the report mudskipper and great job to you & everyone's involved hard work!
