I've boiled enough lobsters in my former lifetime when I was a Yank ... 10 minutes for the first pound and 3 minutes for every extra pound of any single lobster - not the whole pot. A couple of large 2-pound lobsters takes 13 minutes of medium boiling time (10 + 3).
Shrimp and crawdads take less, about 7-8 minutes for jumbos and 3-5 for mediums. Time them once the boil starts again after you've dumped them in the pot.
If you boil them too long they will taste like yuck. I have no idea why people boil crawdads for 20 or 30 minutes, other than they're waiting on the taters and corn. I always start my corn, taters, or whatever in a different pot and then throw 'em together at the end. If you got silver corn, it doesn't need much of a boil, either.
Now BBQ lobster, that takes some skill. I can be bribed with col' beer!
