Does anyone know how the closure of Rollover Pass affects the tide charts and salinity at the east end of the bay ?

This is a really good question. As to salinity, my dad grew up in Smith Point. He was a shrimper and oysterman like several generations before him. He remembered before they opened rollover and said that the bay on that end used to get excessively fresh and grow green stringy moss that would choke out the oyster beds and foul outboards. Once they opened rollover all of that stopped and they bay cleared up. Granted this was way back in the 40s and 50s. There may have been a pollution element back then that we don’t have now that was contributing as well.

I would also imagine that the tide would lag behind In the far East end of the bay but I’m just guessing at that.

Thanks for the input . The tide lag rings true . The salinity level statement seems reasonable and I hope the fresh water problem doesn’t develop . Time will tell .

Thank you , I’ve seen the salinity model but it still factors in the water flow from an open Rollover Pass .
