  • Venice La,Suggetions???

My dad and I were talking about going to venice for spring break, which is mid march, to do some tuna fishing. Have any of yall been there and have some suggestions of guides. We were thinking of either an all day trip or an overnight trip. Any help is appreciated.

I haven't been in years-we used to use the Islander fishing barge which would be anchored in the bay of Breton Island and would fish Gozier (little and big) as well as Breton Island, but I think Katrina wiped most barge operators out. Reel Peace is both trout/reds and they hit the floaters for yellow fin tuna and blackfin-they go out of Venice. We would hop a float plan out of Chalmette and be there in about 20 minutes, land in the lagoon and use the barge captain as our guide with him running a 23' Wellcraft and he'd take us til dark thrity before heading back to barge -we'd stay all night for a few days on the barge. Was first class and absolutely great fishing-I think we paid about $400/day for guide and lodging, plus about $100 for float plane RT cost per person. I have used the boats out of Biloxi but did not do real good with those little skiffs they drop in the water-too limited on places to make it to-no range. We've hauled our boats to Venice also-what a drive-instead of 8 hours, make it more like 12 due to towing boats-said never again. Had a buddy with a 23' Mako he kept in Hopedale, but that was about a 30 mile run to Breton Island from Hopedael and was pretty ugly when weather came in. I'm pretty sure Big and Little Gozier Islands have disappeared since Katrins-maybe even Breton also-Breton was pretty big and nice lagoon.

Called Venice Marina and ask if they still have fishing/camp/barge operators at Breton Island and who they'd recommend-or just go out of Venice.

"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. I fished with the ReelPeace guys a few years back and we did very well. The captain was first rate and the Glacier Bays would cut throug some slop. We caught 11 tuna in 2 days ranging from 90 to 120 pounds. Bring every cooler you have, hopefully you'll need them all.
