What sucks is that there are people stupid enough to do what they did. They had ZERO sailing experience and broke just about every law of common sense cruising.
Attempting to enter an unknown harbor in the dark is a big no-no.
And, if they spent all that they had purchasing the boat, how did they plan on paying for the endless maintenance required owning a sailboat? There is always something that needs repair or replacement, and we all know that boat parts are not cheap.
Life on the sea is not easy, and the sea can be a very cruel teacher.

I agree. I didn't say they were smart or responsible. I'd say they were very lucky it didn't happen somewhere more dangerous. I'm real glad the dog didn't get hurt. Maybe dog protective services (if there is such a thing) will take the little pug away from them and let it stay with their grandparents.Comment

They started a GoFundMe account and are over $13k-gee, people are stupid-unless they're hoping next time the idiot couple sinks 500 miles from the coast instead of trying to navigate a tight pass at night in a 28' sailboat with no experience or knowledge of the pass. Heck that'd be like taking a 32' Proline thru San Luis Pass with no GPS or boat to follow. Sad that they may breed someday.
