Definitely a perch on a cane pole -- Lake Livingston ~ 1976. The first saltwater fish that I remember catching was about a 6 lb Flounder also on a cane pole at the boat ramp of Wilson's bait camp out on the east end of the island ~ 1978. Man I'm getting old!
