I went through that about 10 years ago. Docs, endos, Xrays, upper GIs found nothing. When it came on, the pain was so strong that I could not lay down.

Cimetidine (over the counter at the drug store) solved the problem. I still get an attack about once a year. When it comes on, I pop a few Cimetidines and it goes away. It does take a while for it to work, though - about 4 hours - which I spend sitting up.

I take 4x the recommended dose. Doc says that is the max.

I had the same thing happen to me several years ago. I had a history of mild acid reflux, but suddenly it went out of control with severe pain. I went to a gastrologist, and the first thing she asked was are you taking ANY type of anti-inflammatory medication. Just so happens that a doctor had recently given me a presciption. Now I am not allowed to take any. They found a bad spot in my esophogus. I can't even take over the counter stuff like Advil or asprin. The medication they put me on is called Zegerid. If I take it everyday thing stay under control. From what I was told, Zegerid is the strongest presciption medicine on the market for acid reflux. Hope this helps and you get better.

One more thing. They also checked my gall bladder to see if it was working. If it is not it will cause the same symtoms.

I've been dealing with the same kind of crap for years! I'm the same age as you and I was probably 22 or so when I started having issues. I've been thru the whole list of pills also. Most all of the once daily pills only work on an empty stomach. If you're already have indigestion they don't do anything to reduce the acid that's already in there. I take one now called Aciphex. It is supposed to work whether you've eaten or not. Seems like when I'm really stressed I have a lot more problems. -- I've spent lots of nights sitting up in the chair eating rolaids wishing I would just die already!! I'm sure you'll find a med that will help you out if you keep at it. You're doing good by cutting out the spicy stuff -- I'd probably lay off coffee and heavy milk products for a while also -- You gotta heal up man!! Crawfish season is just about here!!

I deal with it off and on also so I feel your pain. When it comes there is nothing that stops it, but my generally only lasts a few days. I have found, believe it or not, drinking orange juice gives me some relief and sometimes ginger ale. Sure hope the Doc can find your problem and help!!!!!!

One symptom from sleep apnea can be the symptoms that you have described. I have sleep apnea and had to take antacids none stop at night. Once I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and got my c-pap machine, the acid indigestion went away. Some symptoms of sleep apnea are snoring, feeling tired, dozing off after meals or sitting , your wife noticing you stop breathing while sleeping and more. Being overweight is common, but skinny teenagers can have sleep apnea. I've diagnosed patients at my dental office. They would fall asleep while getting their teeth cleaned or during treatment. they got tested and came back to thank me. If you have these symptoms, it's a good bet that's the cause. Sleep apnea can kill you.

Man, poor fella. Hope you get some relief!

My problem is mainly picking some bad bacteria from some food or another, and that can last for several days. I'll do great for a month or so and then something will knock me off my perch for a week or so. I dunno, it just seems to go away ... I hope what you have is pretty simple like that.

Sometimes I take penicillin and that kills nearly all the bacteria in your gut, making digestion difficult at best. I'd tried yogurt with good results, they even sell some kinds that are good for your digestion.

                          Take care ...

Sounds to me like you might have ulcers, maybe stress induced ulcers. I suggest you get lots of rest and take your mind off stressful situations......perhaps going fishing would help a lot.
