  • Whaler Project - or, How I Spent My Summer

I have been working since early March overhauling my 11' Whaler. I hauled it out with the intention of just giving it a good bottom job and maybe a little touch-up here and there. I figured I could knock it out in a week or two. However, when I got it out and saw the bottom, I realized that I had more than just a paint job on my hands.

There were holes and cracks all over, so I spent the past few months doing a lot of fiberglass repair. Notice the gunwale and the starboard stern quarter. The topside was in similarly bad shape - lots of cracks.

Here it is back in March.

Here it is last week - bottom complete.

And here it is - ready to get wet again.

Man, that's just too beautiful to put back in the water! Awesome job.

Very nice glass work Walker. How'd you keep the bugs out of the gelcoat? Do you have power there?

Praying for the people of Anegada and Tortola right now. Irma is a monster. Walker, please let us know you and Nancy are ok.
