  • The weirdest thing happened

This is kinda long so bear with me.

I woke up at about 8:00am to the dog barking. I got out of bed to let him out and didn't realize my foot was asleep until I tried to take a step, my foot rolled and I heard a loud pop and then pain shot up my leg. I screamed like a schoolgirl for a minute and Tina asked what the hell happened and told me to stay in bed. After a couple of minutes(being the stubborn guy I am) I decided I was OK and limped in to let the dog out. After getting him out I turned and started feeling light headed, nauseous and my head started throbbing. I guess I partially blacked out. I saw the floor coming up to meet my face and thought "damn this is gonna hurt!". Fortunately my head landed in a big pile of jumbo legos and they broke the impact.
Next thing I knew I heard Tina screaming "What the hell happened", and she ran in to help me. I tried to sit up and told her that I needed to get to the bathroom because I was feeling really nauseous. She helped me into the bathroom and I sat on the throne for about an hour with sweat dripping off of me, Ice on my ankle (thanks Baby), fluids running out and "laying cable" as Scott so eloquently put it. I finally started feeling better and (being a little more cautious this time) I had Tina help me back to the bed and laid there for about an hour. I finally got up and ate a big lunch and am feeling a lot better except for the pain in my ankle and neck and a little bump on my head.
I have no idea what happened. I am thinking maybe food poisoning. I typically have a stomach of iron and have only vomited 4-5 times in my life that I can remember.
We did decide last night that we couldn't wait any longer for mudbugs and we went to Pappas Seafood. I ate Crawfish Bisque, Boiled Crawfish, Fries, Stuffed Shrimp and some bread. Everyone else ate some of everything except the Stuffed Shrimp.

Anyone have any ideas? I am hoping it was a one time event. I haven't experienced anything like that in my life!

Mud bugs are not the best food to eat out. If they are dead prior to boiling them they can be about the worst kind of food poisoning. Outside of that, many things can cause system evacuation. It is one of your bodies primary ways of protecting itself. Any serious disruption can trigger it.

If you heard a pop when you stepped I would be concerned about a sprung ankle also.

food poisoning happens when you eat, sooner or later, u get it.
I'm more concerned about the "pop" in your ankle, that's liable to give you more trouble than a little bout of food poisoning.

You should check with the Doc to make sure you didn't have a minor stroke, and to check out that ankle. Take care mon.

Go see the doctor. Neuro stuff is nothing to guess about. I had a 40 year old friend collapse one time, only he never got up!

You ought to get it checked out... ankle and fainting. I think the pain from your ankle caused the blood to rush from your head and you fainted from that. When in distress, you can void your bowels. Food piosoning REALLY makes your stomach hurt and lasts several hours. I had it once and felt like glass shards and knives were in my stomach. Glad you feel better, but a bang on the head can cause a slow bleeding inside the skull.

Sounds like you may have possibly experienced a CVA. Apoplexy, cerebrovascular accident-a sudden loss of consciousness resulting when a rupture or occlusion of a blood vessel leads to a lack of oxygen to the brain. A mini/eshimic stroke is a possibility as well.
Maybe it was just a head rush, put down the bong and grow up!

Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

You know, I just joined this site but I've learned that there must be an incredible amount of trust in this group. Where the hell else can you find someone who had quite possibly a near death experience, yet instead of getting medical aid asap, he simply asks a forum of saltwater fisherman? Wow, that's some trust.
I talked to one of my bro's earlier (he's an anesthesiologist) and asked him about this episode. He said you should get checked out. He said it sounds like some high blood pressure issues.
That's scarey... I agree with SCHU, nothing to mess with.
                              Good luck.

On another note, I just came in from Galveston Mardi Gras... spent all day on the seawall watching the parades go by... eating bbq, boudin, and ribs and drinking a cold beer. I would turn around from time to time and look out into the Gulf.... the water (and day) were incredibly beautiful. It was killin' me but I had to stay with the krewe.
If the weather holds tomorow, I'm out in West Bay.
                              Anybody go out today?
