  • Gonna Try Mosquito Island Tomorrow

Heading out to Mosquito Island, with the kayak, in the morning. All day incoming tide beginning at 0900. Weather looks favorable. Maybe I'll catch some decent fish. Anyone wanting to go, I'll be at Boyd's One Stop at 0800 pulling a yellow Ocean Kayak. Of course I'll take pics if the flish are worthy.

Well, I had a good day. There were about 8 or 9 yakers, not counting us. There were about a dozen or so waders getting their butts kicked by the 4-5 foot high waves from the ship channel, and nobody was catching fish. I moved into some clearer, less turbulent water and caught a 18" trout. My buddy didn't catch anything. I caught a small red dink that ran under my yak and got my fishing line hung up in my prop. After that, a storm was coming in from the north end of the dike and the water got really choppy. After another ship channel wave almost capsized me, I took my fish and went home. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thank you. I wish you a continued speedy recovery and knocking the socks off the fish when you get back out. Just keep doing what you're doing to get there.

Thanks for the report. Always gotta be careful out there with those ship wakes. Way to at least catch a couple.

Thank you much. If I go there again, I think I'll fish closer to the drop off, near the entrance to the dike. The waves looked like they had pretty much rolled out by the time they got to shore. It's so shallow all over that area, I think I can catch fish anywhere if they're in there working.

Yes, those waders were getting hammered pretty bad. I took my troll motor prop off today to get the fishing line off. You wont believe how much crud was in there. The prop nut was backed off so much, Im surprized it didnt come off. I dont know how the motor was even working.

Thank you Sir. It was different. I can say that. Doubt I go back. Took me at least four hours to clean up my yak and my equipment. Then yesterday, another hour or so to fix my troll motor. Tested it today. Ran like it's new.

Caught my first topwater red and trout wading there. Good memories. Glad you caught something and got home safe! Thanks for the report.

Thank you. Has the ship traffic always been something to watch out for there? I know what to expect if I go there again. I really enjoyed catching those fish.
