Dollar Point

Thinking about heading to do a little wade in the morning at dollar point. Has anybody fished there? If so what type of bait or tips for the spot? Are you allowed to park off of skyline drive?

I only remember one thing about fishing there. BEWARE of sudden deep holes. Many stories of people stepping off into them.

I used to wade there all the time, not sure about parking now but was OK years ago except for the crackhaids breaking into cars and stealing everything they could. I waded the flats about halfway between dike and moses tide gate-good hard sand bottom. Skeeters ate you up running down the levee and we'd jump under the water as soon as possible to get away from them. Used live shrimp mainly. Deep hole is between mosquito island and levee-and yes, easy to fall into. grey suits a plenty also. get a wading map and check it out as well as google earth.

I also used to (a few years back) wade the point a lot down near the old pier pilings near almost to the the mose's lake gates. when it was right we caught good fish. Both soft plastics and Live shrimp will work, best on a moving tide. the bottom is hard sand and not a real problem with the holes when you get down that far. The bottom contour is a gradual drop and it has some scattered shell. We always parked on the levee and the rule is do not leave anything in your vehicle that you can't afford to lose! The police try to watch it but it can sure happen and you are too far away to stop it.

Hey everyone thanks again to all the replies about dollar point. I didn't have any luck prob due to my greenhorn status, but I'm trying and still enjoyed the day. Went out around 8am and started at the curved point and worked that small little rock work back toward the jetties with soft plastic lures, no luck. Lots of large mullet schooling and water was clear, but tide was in don't know if that had anything to do with it. Also tried at the flood gates on the moses lake side with no luck either, also working soft plastics. Went back to the flood gates around 6pm with live croker no luck either but a few guys around me where catching small fish, couldn't tell if they where specks or not, might of been small sand trout. But I sure was determined to try and catch one fish for the day. In the afternoon seems like tide was going out and I was battling a North wind and just didn't seem like anything was in my favor.

Thank you for that tip, couple of guys that where wading had that spot pretty locked up. Is there a deep drop off right around that area?

Yes just west and NW of mosquito island. I've personally seen CG and Sheriff dragging for bodies several times. I've stepped off into it and immediately was swimming. very dangerous. google earth is your friend-check it out.
