Hey everyone,
Went down to Aransas Pass/Port Aransas for the long weekend and here is the report.
Weather: Saturday: Overcast and calm in the morning (sun came out in the afternoon/evening); Sunday: Mostly cloudy with spots of sun; Monday: Rain. Rain. Rain. The wind was on and off throughout the weekend.
Launch time: 0630 and again around 1530
Take out time: 1200 and again around 1830
Location: Cavasso Creek, St. Charles Bay, Brown and Root, Inner Basin (ship channel)
Substrate targeted: Marsh Grass, oysters, seagrass, drop-offs (ship channel)
Lure: Homemade soft plastics
Saturday morning, although the water was low at Cavasso, seemed promising. We got out early and hit them with topwater as the wind was down. We soon found out that wasn't the ticket. Switched over to my homemade soft plastics and target potholes and marsh inlets and pulled a few undersized reds to the boat. The key to Cavasso is water, and we didn't really have it this weekend.
Caught on this homemade soft plastic color variant (I like to take my own lightbox photos too).

Saturday evening, we fished Brown and Root, and had better luck. Pulled out two slot reds and missed another in about 45 minutes. A south wind had pushed water and the fish onto the flat, so we were able to see all three fish come up and hit the lure...exciting!

Caught on this homemade soft plastic color variant.

Sunday's conditions weren't as good as Saturday's, so we decided to wade the Inner Basin area and throw into the ship channel. The artificial campaign failed, but luckily my buddy brought dead shrimp and squid to save the day, so we decided to jack around with popping corks for a while. We managed to pull a few sheeps from under the barges, along with a rather large pinfish.

We had planned to fish Monday morning before heading out, but it was all rain, so we settled for just breakfast before we all went our separate way.
In conclusion, not the best day, but great fellowship, and we did manage to catch enough fish to talk about. That's it.
