Fish west end

I decided last year to only fish with lures and it was a pretty good year for catching fish. I didn't get out on the water as much as I would've liked but I did get out there. Took my wife's 14yo cousin out several times and he got his first red ever and trout in my boat with me which was awesome. I took more pictures if him with that fish then I've ever taken of me with a fish. Well this year I'm dedicating myself, boat, time, nagging from the wife about being out all day, and so many more things to specifically fishing west galveston bay. I want to learn it like the back of my hand. I want to know where to go when conditions change. I want to religiously learn it. Now this will take years but I don't want to fish any other water this year as a test to my convictions in conquering the water. Sure I've caught plenty of fish in lots of places but I want that first hand connection with my elements and not just filling the freezer. I'd like to hear about people's love/hate relationship with west galveston bay. Love when you find the fish hate when you don't.

I'm with you!! I think west bay is the best one to fish out of anywhere in Galveston just because of how the fishing is in there waters you can't have blood in the water without a shark coming around !! I love the bay catching or non catching reefs, marsh, islands the causeway fishing and how these fish don't stop moving you defiantly need to stay on top! I'm with you I wanna learn the bay back and fourth and learn how the fish move due to weather. But I'm with you and great picture !

Love the enthusiasm... but there's a caveat. West Bay is seasonal. You're better off fishing it right now thru end of April / early may and then fishing other bays the rest of the year. There is a certain small part of it that is good in the heat of the summer but much of west is devoid of decent fish during the heat of the summer.

A long time ago I heard the statement 'pick a bay and lean it, then move elsewhere'. Well, what works better is learn where and when the fish move through the system and learn the areas that they are in, when they are in there. That will save you a lot of frustration and time and you'll catch bigger fish.

I plan on moving down toward San Luis pass as summer starts to roll in. I've caught consistent fish down there in the heat, but if I have an outing with no fish which is extremely rare for me these days I will consider leaving west bay. Lol also here is my question are we counting the San Luis pass area west bay? I would say everything from the causeway west until you hit that shoreline on the west side of bird island west bay right?

Not counting San Luis Pass a part of West Bay is like not counting Austin a part of Texas.
