Went out scouting for a trip I had on Wed the 3rd, hit 5 different spots, a few in west,chocolate, and Bastrop, and all were holding good numbers of trout with a few reds mixed in, caught a limit of trout and a red then played catch and release.
Wednesday my people and I were greeted with light winds and mullet getting smashed at our first spot, we all hop out and started getting hooked up immediately, my first fish was 26.5 6.5 lber which was cpr'd and then one of the guys sticks one about 28" right a 7 lbs which was also released they caught there limits of trout and a few reds then we played catch and release with them, caught many fish in the 20-23" range and they were nice and healthy. We hit a few other spots in search of a few more reds but all we found was more trout. Headed to the dock around 12 and lost my lower unit on the way in, got towed but everyone went home happy and safe.
Monday the 8th me and another captain went scouting for a couple charters he had this week and we hit a few spots in west and found plenty of solid trout, we caught our limits and released another dozen or so a piece.
Pretty confident insurance is gonna cover the lower unit so hopefully I wont be boatless long, fishing is good. Most of these fish came from 2-3' of water over sand and some over a hard mud/shell mix, with plenty of mullet around..
