That little split tail lure just on top of the left Gulp package is what I've been hammering them (trout) on under the lights for the last month plus. Make a tandem rig using 30lb leader. It'll help you cast farther and I've found most fish miss the first one, and hit the second one. Don't ask me about reds. I've hit a dry patch on those the last month and a half.

Reds-the paddletail with the spinner was what we used to hammer em at Big lake at the weirs. Colors are good with or without the spinner. We fished deep hole-cast out, allowed to hit bottom then a little 'bump' and nice reds almost every cast.

Well mr. Db and mr. Robalo it's good to hear from y'all again! Long time no see, hopefully y'all been doing pretty good I've come quite a ways from working at the bait shop part time I'd love to get to fish with y'all at some point in the near future! I'm definitely going to be making my way down there much more often it's really killing me that it's fishing season and I don't know my butt from a hole in the ground I mean I think I know what to throw at them I just don't know where they're at it anymore and I don't have a boat or a kayak anymore I mean I used to be a kayak fishing pole but no more kayak and I love to get one but I just can't find the deal on 1

I think your on the right track but don't blow a bunch of money on the latest and greatest just because its in a magazine or on the radio talk shows. Its much more important to learn the fish patterns and tides and weather in my opinion. When the fish are hungry I don't think lures are that important it's getting them in front of feeding fish that is the tough part and fun part. Good luck plenty of people to help here.

Well my go to color for a jig at the moment is red with a chartreuse tail. Top waters are typically good early in the morning or late in the day unless there is a lot of bait being balled up on the surface. Learn how to use swellinfo.com to find out if the surf is calm and go there if it's calm if not go to South shoreline of West Galveston and walkin. Also color is not the most important thing. Murky water go darker like red or black. Clearer water go brighter. Also just make sure to change your retrieve style until you start catching. If it's close to a full moon or new moon fish closer to the passes.

I've never bought into the whole gulp stuff but some swear by it. I was told once that lures were best designed to catch fisherman not fish lol

Gulp has won more money in the Redfish tourneys than any other baits combined. Just don't spill it or you will have to get rid of whatever you spill it on

And don't use it to be an 'out' for reading the water. Have to learn to read the water and locate fish. The guys are right, over time and fishing with better anglers and well as you spending time on the water you'll simplify your tackle selection a bunch.. most of use just use maybe 5 lures in a day.. maybe 2-3.

                          Spook jr in bone
                          Spinner or spoon for reds
Any rat tail on a jig head for when they aren't hitting tops. (that will even work at night).

Speaking for at night, you'll catch a little bigger fish in the lights using a jerk minnow crank bait of some sort.. a you zuri crystal minnow is a good choice and just work it very erratically.

                          go get them tiger.

                            Welcome!

Instead of a whole slew of lures, I find myself throwing a few confidence baits more often than not.

If I were you I would save that lure money and buy a cheap kayak. After the upfront cost there is basically no maintenance. Stuff doesn't really break and you don't need a trailer or registration for either. You will have far more range than wading and mud/deep water/rays are not a problem. You can take more gear and it will be right there behind you.

Can anyone tell I'm biased towards kayak fishing? Haha

Kayak fishing is the way to go if you don't have a boat. Also I stick to 5-6 go to lures. Basically a bright and a dark of the same lure and multiple of them. My tackle box is just a lot of the same stuff. You will either break some off on fish or shell so you need backups for your favorite lures. I have a few top waters, a few subsurface plugs, and a few jigs. Essential to have different weight jig heads though depending on depth and water speed. In my opinion I want to.use the lightest jig head I can cast far. Also if you don't use a bait at learn how to use one and any Shimano bait at is sufficient. Medium action rod is preferred. My go to rig is a Shimano citica with 30lb braid on a 7' medium action h20 ethos inshore rod(amazing rod for a $60 price tag) favorite rod I've ever had for the money, then I tie on a barrel swivel, 18" of 30lb mono and tie your desired lure. For braid use a Palomar knot or it will slip. For plugs being tied to mono use a nonslip loop knot, it will improve the action of the lure. For mono to swivel I use a knot similar to a clinch knot but it's not a clinch. Actually I've never seen my knot in a knot book. My grandpa taught it to me and it's never slipped or broken at the knot so I keep using it.

This is swellinfo.com awesome site for figuring out if wading the beach will be good. Saturday should be awesome for a beach wade just make sure to look for bait and oil slicks.
