Started in the surf right in front of Palisade Palms on the east end this morning at 6:00. First cast was a foul hooked hardhead, second cast was a big hardhead, both on chickenboy psycho shad's in pearl/chart. Switched to a topwater to avoid hardheads, and got nothing for about an hour. A pod of dolphins came through, so I packed up and drove to the Jamaica beach area, and the water looked cleaner. Mullet were EVERYWHERE, and I only managed one trout on a Chartreuse Gulp swimming mullet, but it was a big girl. I left my net at home and the loop knot broke when I grabbed the fish...and away she swam.
One guy was throwing croaker all morning, and he had nothing (he also almost went under permanently, which scared me...but he thankfully found his footing as I was getting closer to help). A group of guys on the other side of me were pulling in dinks on shrimp under a cork. A very nice older gentleman waded up close to me and was throwing a silver spoon, and we hooked up at the same time. Had a good hour long talk with him while we searched for more fish, but I called it at 11:00 to go meet my wife and kids a the pool.
As the day goes on, the surf is getting flatter and cleaner. Tonight and tomorrow morning should be very good, and I'll get after them again.
Fished with a Ci4+ 1000 spinning reel with 10lb SS8, and a new Shimano Poison Adrena rod, and was seriously impressed with how lightweight and sensitive the whole set-up was. I might be coming back around to spinning gear.

I was there at sun up but the surf was not one foot and it looked dirty . I drove from 61 St street to the pass . The water was dirtier the farther west you went . I finally turned around and drove back to Houston without getting wet .GEORGE A. BRANARD, COLOR SERGEANT, CO. L, 1 ST TEXAS INFANTRY, HOOD'S TEXAS BRIGADE, C.S.A. : S.C.V.
