Ok so i broke down a few weeks ago and bought a new motorguide x5i 105 pinpoint. I think its gunna have to grow on me. I've always had minnkotta and thus being a few hundred cheaper i decided to get it just fir that.
    Pros
Its quieter than my old minnkotta wireless
Its easier to deploy the motor
    Cons
While installing it i plugged ir in to see if it worked....nothing. Took it to ftu thinking it was a faulty mother board. Bench test perfect. Found out you must deploy the motor before you know if you have power to it.

The anchor mode is neat but it looks like a retarded robot doing a mc hammer dance while trying to hold your position

The cruise control, anchor, directiinnal buttons are the same size and in my opinion way to close to each other. So if you accidentally hit the anchor button instead of the motor up button you will go into break dance mode and you swear it's malfunctioning.

The supplied landyard is way to long. Its just about a nut jabber on me. But thats an easy fix

Is anyone running this motor? What do yall think about it? Im hoping ill get this motor in tune with me before i start chaaing birds again. For sure a learning curve

I got the Xi5 a couple of months ago. I got the 80lb thrust...no issues here. It took a trip or 2 to get used to it and now I'm good to go.

How does the cruise control work? Ive read up on how to do it and im still unsure. Do you have to hit memory first or can you just hit cruise and it will maintain head speed? Does your motor act funny on anchor mode? Gunna take some getting use to

I just hit cruise when it's on the heading I like and it stays that course and speed. Hit manual again to take it out of cruise. I have mine integrated to a Lowrance HDS-9 Gen 3. To be honest, I don't use the integration much which is the primary reason I bought it.

But having a remote control trolling motor you can operate anywhere on the boat is a game changer. And I do like the anchor mode...but I guess it does act kinda funny when it's holding a spot. Not sure how else it would be able to do it.

LOL.. I can picture that in my mind. Cracked me up.

I got the base Xi5 and I like it. No Manufacturing process is perfect, but if you tell the manufacture your thoughts, you'd be surprised that in about a year or 2 they upgrade the things you didn't like.. It takes time, but please do tell them.

I got the Ulterra 80lb thrust last month and really enjoy the automatic deploy/retrieve action. I had a built-in battery charger installed as well. Both are the cats meow
