  • Tough Weekend!

Fished Friday eve, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon...all OVER West Bay! It was a tough bite for us. Scratched out 3 flounder and 1 red...only one of the flounder kept.

Things better turn around pronto if I'm going to have any hope of weighing in at the tourney.

Saturday I fished from slap to bastrop bayou and brought home one flounder. Caught a 17" red, and a big sheepie that got put back and other than that it was a nice boat ride.

We fished all weekend too and found the fish but they weren't eating. Ended up with a flounder, a trout, and a red.

Sounds like I had the same situation Saturday. My main purpose of my trip was to run the boat and see how it did after replacing my main wiring harness. Good thing is the boat did perfect. I covered some water. Put in at the causeway mid morning Saturday. Fished the two Deer islands, Greens cut, the marsh grass to the north also worked some birds in the mid section of West bay between the main reefs and along the south end of Bird Island, Made a run over to the Yacht Basin, and Pelican Island, and the Sand Flats. Found some more birds working the Western side of Pelican on the flats... All in all I dug a few reds from the grass on Bass Assassins and Spoons at Greens and a bunch of Schoolies under the birds with Spoons. Did not put anything in the cooler. All catch and release.
            The water was nice Saturday.

Friday was a tough day to fish, day after a front, high pressure and a strong ENE wind. I had one bite throwing a black paddle tail up against a windward shoreline where I normally catch reds, but turned out to be a 7 pound trout. Sunday I found the bite to be on. throwing top waters, I was getting numerous blow ups from small trout and reds, switched to a soft dine and started catching keeper reds, but after the fifth one, it was torn up. I wouldn't recommend throwing soft dines for reds, it will get expensive.

Got them real early on Unfair topwaters Sunday. Ended up with 7 around 3-4 pounds. by 10am then it just shut off. Went home and cooked up some fish.
