What do the fish normally do when the water get high. My dad just sent me picture of Jamaica canal and its almost 1.5 up? I'm looking to fish this entire weekend?

Of course there are all the other usual factors .... Wind , temperature , water clarity and such , but , one possibility is it scatters fish . But , redfish also love to root around up in that shore marsh grass that's usually out of reach. .

Thanks for that info i was kind of thinking they might do that. I hope to find something this weekend. Over the past couple of months i cant seem to locate anything. I dont know if im just starting off in the wrong spots or just moving around to many spots where i should be focusing on just a couple.

All this rain will push fresh water farther out into the bays . So , expect salt water and the fish to be out away from the bayou / river mouths . Also , those areas could have a layer of off color fresh water over salt water before it all becomes salt water . There can be fish in that bottom salt water layer .

Areas closer to SLP and the causeway will bring in salt water from the Gulf on the incoming tide . I would imagine the south coves would be fine for fishing . The other guys will be more helpful as I haven't fished much for so long because of my back surgery .

Yes it's going to be tough the next couple of days with high water conditions... You're right on plugger, the bait are allowed to swim back into the grass and virtually disappear from the fish. Also, this high water condition is going to mess with the tide the next couple of days until all that water can get out. But this is typical of spring transition fishing. Even some guides will have trouble daily this time of year... it's not easy to catch fish during the spring transition. High tides, wind, fish are moving and because the water temps are almost 70 they can go anywhere, then the next front sucks all the water out and those fish move again. Plano, I wouldn't worry too much about it right now.. the spring transition started early this year and it's not an easy time to locate fish... it's just too unstable. it's ok to fish structure if you arn't finding sign, but if you don't get bit don't just beat on it for ever. I bounced all day yesterday until I finally got on a few fish... If I could have waded that area I probably could have gotten a nice batch of fish, but because of the tide height I could only drift. I ended up with 4 fish yesterday... the day before I had 8 trout and 2 reds.... that is the spring transition.

Marsh drains might be a good option over the next couple of days, all this high water has to be slowly moving out and the only real current will be the marsh drains and the jetties. Good luck out there guys.
