Well guys, I am absolutely exhausted. The last 3 days have been a marathon. I'd like to write a long and detailed report, but I can't muster it.
I want to sincerely thank the work crew. WillieP, VJER, TwoMack, Reeltime, likesemfishingbig11, Walker, SCHU, TMO, Fishbobr, and their buddy Chris. I can't help but feel like I'm missing someone, and if I did I sure do apologize.
This morning we cut off the last 3 pieces, then took care of the pilings and floor joists. We got it all chopped up and separated, save for 4 pilings that need a chainsaw lesson. We still have the hauling to do. I'd say there are still 4-5 boat loads of lumber and pilings left to haul out. I might have hurt myself today with the pilings. Couldn't cut them with the chainsaw as that blade was done for. I wrestled with it for a while, but Tres just started cutting the stringers with the circular saw and it went well. We ran out of time to mess with the chainsaw, so we did a little caber tossing (ever seen the highland games?) and I pulled something. We still have the tank, 2 PVC poles in the water, and one steel pipe to cut, as well as the nubs of the pilings to cut a bit lower.
I may be asking y'all one last time to head out there this weekend to finish it up. I'll need one person sawing on the tank with a skilsaw and or the sawzall. One chainsaw maniac to hit the pilings and nubs, and one person in waders to take care of the PVC pipes. We'll have to take the sawzall to the steel pipe. We still have a few more little things to get out of there as well. The tide should be low enough to get to everything.
Throwing a wrinkle in it all is a situation with my grandmother. She's 97 and she fell down and hit her head on Friday. She is not expected to pull through. I may have to go home this coming weekend as the doctor says it's a matter of only days before she leaves us. Mom said that she was lucid enough last night to tell her that the Saints won and are going to the Super Bowl. She smiled and told my mom that was one of the things she was waiting for before she could go.
In essence, there is no way for me to know yet if I'll be able to be there next weekend to get the job finished. We're so close to getting it done and the deadline is next Monday. We couldn't have done it without each and every one of you who have come out over the last year to push, pull, and hack on it. I just need one more day of help. Let me know if you're in. - Sandy
PS: Sorry I have no pics of my own. I don't even know where my camera is, and I never had time to take any pics anyway.
