  • This weekend , the sand trout are back

Found the sand trout are back in the clear lake channel, and out to the last marker in the bay. Saturday starting at 3pm we could not make it out on the bay , huge swell so we stayed in the channel, sunday at 3pm the bay was fine and we stayed close in, both days on dead shrimp the sand trout were fun. Very few hard heads and a couple of croakers all returned for another day .

You've gone from hardheads to sand trout and learning spots and the water. I call that progress and that's a great thing. Props to you!

I think it is persistence , even if its for 2 hours, I will launch and fish near by. I have been keeping records of my catch for the past year, so I can see trends vrs time of year ect. These trout , great fun, when we find them we switch to lighter tackle to make more drama. The meat is very light, very light scale , light taste. I have heard they do not freeze well and turn into mush. We only keep
when the kids are in town for a fish fry. I did notice that catfish is about $7 a pound so next time I get into the big slimers ( gaf-top) Im going to stock up. One thing I have been working on as I drownd dead shrimp, I have been working lures just to see if I can break my skunk of zero on plastic. I have been consentrating on a chicken-boy I like, I tested it in the pond behind the house and the bass chase it down every time . Using things in clear water I can get an idea of what I think is a good presentation. I have a week off during thanks giving and hope to find the flounder.

It seems you have learned a lot while having fun too .

The next time you get on the sand trout bite, take the smaller ones and make cut bait. They're get bigger.
