  • October Bones

I took a walk down the beach this morning, fly rod in hand, and found the bones ready to play.

A piece of stray seagrass. I'm not good at one-handed fish photos!

Really nice size Bonefish Walker. Most people that have never caught one have no idea what a smoking run they can make across a flat! I plan on doing some of that in December.

The first one was 18", second one 24", and the third one 26". I am using an 8wt rod. It was about 10 minutes of give and take on the last one, with many hot smoking runs before his batteries finally ran down enough for me to get a hand on him. Bonefish are a lot of fun to catch - and they really test you. These were the three that I landed. I hooked and lost 4 more of them this morning -

And - what the heck - a front yard photo. I have decided that October is absolutely the best month in the Caribbean.

Big bones (over 5 pounds) are fairly common here. The largest bone that I have seen here was 15 pounds, 33 inches long. I didn't catch that one.

Really nice bonefish. I've scheduled a trip for late February.

It's usually the best month in Texas too.
