  • ETEC 115

Is anyone on this forum running an ETEC 115 HO? Not trying to start an outboard vs outboard discussion here. Just trying to get some input from anyone who might be running this engine currently.

Looking to repower & I know what the Evinrude dealer is telling me. I just want some "first hand" knowledge from someone who has experience with the motor.

I did do a search first on the forum & no real good posts with info came up.

Thanks for any information that someone might be able to provide.

I've got a 90 horse etec but it's not an HO. I can give you my opinion on it but I'm thinking that might not be what you're looking for.

      Ibtsoom,

I'd be happy to hear your opinions on your 90 ETEC. Would be interested to know if you are happy with it and if it truly needs as little scheduled maintenance as they say.

It's an 07 and I've had a fuel pump go out and the main computer. Both were under warranty. My unit was one of the 3 year no maintenance ones and I had an additional two years of warranty that the previous owner purchased. Both problems were within a couple months of each other and both in year 4. Other than that I've had no issues at all aside from a lower unit seal which is fairly benign. I changed the impeller when I fixed the seal and it was only slightly worn. I keep everything maintained according to the manufacturers specs and I fresh water flush every time I use it. I also hit it with corrosion x about every 3 months or so to keep any rust out. I use my boat probably twice a week and I've had no other problems. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Especially with the warranties they're offering now. Never hurts to buy extra warranty if you can swing it though. You most likely won't have to touch a thing for their guarantee period.

Thanks for the info! That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Working with Reynold's Marine in Baytown - will probably go with 115 E-TEC HO repower in next couple of weeks.

All I can say is I will never own a two stroke again. Noisy pain in the arse motors. I use to try to justify my decision to run a two stroke mainly because I made a mistake, spent a lot of money and would not admit it. Just my experience, As far as horsepower get the biggest your hull manufacturer recommends.

I second that. My 150 Etec is very fuel efficient!!!! I'm very happy with mine. About 580 hours on it late 2009 model.

Can't help with ETech, but I must ask, are you a St. Stanislaus grad?

Small World. I know it was a weird question y'all, but St. Stanislaus of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi has the most unique mascot of any school I've ever seen. No Rockachaw, I attended Summer camp there in 1983. I was a "Shrimp". If you graduated in '89 and you went there for Summer camp, you were probably one of the cool Stingrays or Dolphins, or even a vaunted Shark. You may have known my cousin, Charlie Hillyer or my neighbor Sean McCrossen. They both attended St. Stanislaus. I'll never forget the hide tannings I got from Brothers Raymon and Noel. OUCH! My mom grew up in The Pass, and my dad lives there now as well.

Glad you enjoy your 2 stroke.. I guess that is why I see 90 percent of the people on the water running those white motors. I enjoy the quieter 4 stroke.

                              Coach,

Funny you should say Camp Stanislaus. I actually worked at camp for 10 years. Started in 1987. Was actually the interim camp director in 2001 and assistant camp director a couple of other years. Good times! Didn't know Charlie or Sean unfortunately. Brother Ramon and Brother Noel are two gentlemen who I respect greatly. In fact, I flew them up to my wedding in Nebraska in 2003 I think so much of them. Glad to come across you on this forum. Hope you get back to The Pass every now and then. No doubt the Miss Gulf Coast is one of my favorite places.
