Sure miss being 15 minutes away from West Bay

With the sale of our family home last August and my sister obtaining a position in the medical field in the Austin-area, Mom moved this way also since my other sister and family live in Round Rock, my easy to get the boat to my old standby hot spots that I fished since the early 60's just don't offer themselves any longer. Sure miss them and hate not being able to hit Galveston Bay system for some trout, reds and flounder not to mention the jetties for sheepshead action. No more hitting the old duck lease for early teal, but that area sure has changed with all the subsidence that has taken place and it's more open water than marsh now.

Not having a place to stay overnight and keep the boat safe was a norm for me and not really willing to take a chance on things missing out of it from a motel/hotel parking lot overnight.

May have to learn POC or do a couple guide trips to be able to go on my own or with my nephew and his wife.

However, it is nice to see the photos and stories yall pass along to others and sure brings back great memories.

Just make sure cooler is full of adult beverages, have a sammy handy and lots of OFF-of course if ya run dry, motor over to The Sand Bar for re-stocking.

There are plenty of thieves in POC too. I would not leave my stuff in the boat while going into speedy stop. Them rods disappear quick, and coolers.

Make use of what you have nearby. Sure it ain't the salt, but you can still catch fish. Lake Georgetown, Decker, Austin, Travis, Town (Ladybird for you new folks), Colorado River. Plenty of places to fish, and you don't have to rinse all your gear down afterwards.

Oh, I do, but working in Austin at TPWD since 97, I try to stay away from that traffic nightmare. Traveling 108 miles roundtrip 5 days a week was enough.

I do fish Somerville and have a 5 ac pond at the house stocked, but just not like not knowing what you might hang into fishing the coast. I get plenty of freshwater fishing just miss the everyday saltwater trips when my folks lived in LaMarque.

leave your boat at the coast in storage. It makes that round trip a whole lot better, or get a jon boat and leave it with someone in Galveston.
