  • Trolling motors

Just called a form dealer of Minn Kota trolling motors. When I asked him about the Riptide ST 112 pound with a 60 inch shaft with the i pilot he said great motor, but a number of my former customers would rather have the direct drive that you control with the hand control. Sure would like to hear opinions from some of you folks.

When I am fishing with just myself and one other person I'm usually on the bow But, there are times when I have myself and three or four people on the boat and it would be nice to be able to control that motor from the console. But, once again the person told me that a number of his former clients preferred the hand control motor.

There is certainly a difference in price.

I have the remote-pretty cool-and remembers past tracks I can save. I like it.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. I used to have the iPilot and went back to hand. Since I do mostly redfish and sight casting I live on my trolling motor and only time I ever anchor is when I am getting out of the boat to wade. Tried having the remote on my wrist, around my neck, on the rod...nothing really kept me fishing more. I actually use my knee from the bow to move it around. So I think it depends on what kind of fishing you do. I also have used a foot peddle from the tower when I'm up there. I need to be as hands free as possible and the remote does not lend to that in my opinion.

I have a Motorguide with remote and really love it. I'll never go back to hand control.

I keep waffling back and forth. I have the hand control now. I thought I wanted an ipilot but I think I'd rather just keep driving with my knee so I can have both hands free.
            Shut up and FISH!!

With both hands free, it is easier to wave at potlickers!!

So that's why you guys are waving at me

Thanks for all the comments. I just broke down and purchased the I pilot version. Although I think I would really enjoy using the hand version when I fish alone, since I've purchased this bay home I seem to have a lot of friends that call themselves fishermen ( closed face spinning reels) and it is too dangerous to go to the front of the boat!

Now that I know why all of you have been waving at me when I go by, I will look forward to waving back (by the way I am missing two fingers on my right hand so it only LOOKS like I have one finger in the air ).

Thanks again for all of the comments and help.

I like my ipilot. I got it to have my hands free . I can set a directional course at any speed and cruise a shore or do the anchor feature to keep me in one spot . Its pretty neat .
