Surf 8/14

[Walker]

I hit the surf early this morning at 11 mile road with my fly rod, hoping for some trout action. The water was not as clear as I thought it would be with the light north wind and clam sea - visibility maybe a foot or so. The guys with live shrimp under popping corks caught plenty. I only landed 2 dink trout.

However, I did get a decent smack on the fly.


I also landed a gafftop. I have to say - after a gafftop has had your fly in its mouth, the fly is absolutely trash. He totally smashed the fly, and there is no way that slime will ever come out of what remained.

You don't know till you go . I walked the south jetty rocks with a buddy that day . He got one decent trout on a top water and I got a too small one on a silver spoon . We saw a guy fishing shrimp get a keeper . Getting ready to try Follet Island today . I'll report later what happened .

I'll tack my report onto Walker's. I walked in with a buddy at 5:15a down near the Rusty Hook. We caught a mixed bag of trout and reds on soft plastics. No fish on topwaters. Sporadic off and on bite all morning. Nothing of any size. Bait was everywhere. Water was sandy but green. We walked out at 8:30, got in the boat and poked around the marsh in Green's. Spooked lots of reds but the water clarity in the marsh was poor so we didn't see them until they were underway. Stuck around until noon then called it a day.

Sime-ers , they are fun to catch, need towel to grab them . good to eat , a bit larger
