  • Greens Lake

    All,

I rarely run in Greens Lake, and am curious to give it a go late this afternoon....hoping to find something to tug a line with my son. Is the summer fishing worth a darn in Green's, or maybe Jones lake? I'm hoping it's not too hot to hold fish in the afternoon. I run an East Cape Vantage, for what it's worth, and can get pretty skinny with my trolling motor.

Thanks in advance....I mostly just read this forum, lots of good data and plenty of good folks. Very different than other forums!

    Best,
    JP

Good fish in both of the lakes you mentioned. Drift the reefs in the late afternoon in jones with live shrimp. For greens I'd get in the back where the tide is cutting into or out of the marsh and fish one of the deep cuts.
    Shut up and FISH!!

Thank you, I've been studying a map trying to figure out how best to get into Jones from the yacht basin, where my boat is right now. Looks relatively simple...but famous last words and all that!

O.k. go to east bay and throw up a report. There's some good advice.

I recommend you drag your Vantage to Louis' Bait Camp and access Jones/Greens from Highland Bayou. Go out through the RR bridge and follow the poles down the west shore of Jones.

I would pick up some shrimp at Louis' and recommend you run down as far south as Harvey's Pole (the entrance to the diversionary canal). Put your scrimps under a cork and cut a long drift up the line of marker poles that mark the west side of the NE-SW channel in the middle of Jones. Catch it on an outgoing tide if you can.

I've done that three weeks in a row on Friday afternoons and have put the kids on a mix of reds, specks, croaker and some less desirable species.

For some reason, I do best on a fluorescent yellow cork.

              Go get 'em.

X2.. coming in from Louis' bait camp is the best for the first time. once you've run it a couple of times you could put in at the county ramp at the bast of the bridge adjacent to Jones Lake.

Your boat is fine for both Jones and Greens. Jones has more obstables... greens only has a couple reefs that stick up. Look at google earth on a clear aerial before you go so you know where they are.

                        Greens Lake

Many thanks to all for the feedback. I ended up taking my father in law, sister in law, and brother in law for a boat ride/real estate/dolphin watching trip instead. They're from San Francisco, and loved the bay system.

Gotta love the fact that folks from a beautiful part of the country find this part of Texas appealing. It was 70 degrees in San Francisco yesterday at game time as the Astro's once again were beaten by the last place team in the division. According to the weather man in Houston it was 100+ here. I guess beauty is " in the eye of the be-holder."
