  • Saturday morning drift

Hit the water at 6 am Saturday and did a couple drifts near the causeway. The heat ran me off around 9 am but not before I boxed a few. The Pelicans don't lie. 5'-8' water slow jigging the bottom with 1/4 oz jig head. The H&H Strawberry/watermelon paddle tails were the most preferred. I noticed that the larger trout were hitting real close to the boat sorta like Muskie or Pike fishing. (that figure 8 jazz really does work!!!) Awesome day!

I'm talking about during the retrieve before you lift the bait out of the water allow it to sink a couple feet and do a slow figure 8. The bigger trout were trailing all the way to the boat and would strike during this delayed teasing process. Thinking back I probably should have simply slowed my retrieve all along. I will see this weekend.

ok , interesting . I recently talked to a friend who fishes a lot say that the bite has been good on a slow , slow straight retrieve with a slight twitch .

The figure 8 i'm familiar with is to disorient flounder at the surface so they can be netted more easily .
