  • Question for the king of the canal

Ibtsoom, how do you calculate high and low tide in the diversionary, say at the second street ramp? When I lived in Santa Fe and launched there most of the time, I'd add an hour to the Jamaica beach schedule. What's your take, bro? I could have p.m.end but I thought this would make an interesting topic.

I have tried and tried to get it right up here by my house and as best I can tell it about 2 hours and 20 min lag from the Jamaica beach schedule. Jones makes a big tide loop through Basford bayou out where you turn into pierce marsh by the gar hole and it somehow puts more of a lag on the canal upstream from that. That's normally the point that'll green back up after we've had a bunch of rain first. Takes forever to flush it all the way up here at the house. On days we have short tides or 4 tides we don't get enough water movement to suck enough water out to make any difference. Just moves back and forth. One or 2 tide days that suck bunches of water out help most.

So if it's standing high tide in west bay at Jamaica beach at noon, it will be standing high at your house around 2:30? I'll agree with the slow movement, I've never witnessed it rippin' in, but just a question I've never had answered. Thanks bro!

Follow up and I'll leave you to your fourth of July grilling. Are the wake boarders and skiers taking over the DC or can a man get on a little flounder bite? I'm ready to stack a few flat ones and I know a spot if I'm not dodging the crazy drunks and chit heads.

It's still pretty stupid on the weekends unless you're there at daybreak. The crazies don't generally start up till after 10. That's right on the tide. Noon at JB is at or about 2:30 where I am.
