It was a productive weekend at Blockade Runners. It started with VJER meeting me at my house. He came by and hooked up to the Ugly Mudda and took off. I took the Blockade Runner down the road and FlatoutFishin' called me when I hit the beach to say he was sitting on the porch at the camp. He gave up early on the tourney and said his heart wasn't in it and he'd rather be helpin' us out. I told him he'd be on light duties, but he'd have none of that.
Well, it was an adventure as soon as we left the ramp. The tide was so low, neither the Mudda nor the Runner could make it over the hump without using a push pole. The Mudda's motor got clogged up with silt so I had to tow Vic all the way to the camp. Thankfully we were able to clear the clog and put the Mudda to good use. We all headed over to the Ghost Camp and got busy. The bull tide the other day moved the platform about 75 yards down Churchill Bayou. Vic got started on that while Monte helped me load up the boat and I took off for the dock.
Bountyhunter soon arrived with the flatbed trailer and we unloaded the boat. We then took off back to the camp for the second load. Derek and I loaded her up again and headed back to the dock. 2112 arrived just before we got back. The 3 of us then took the trailer load down to the bonfire. We headed back over to the site and loaded the Mudda down so much I thought she might sink. Gladly she made it just fine. We all loaded the trailer and took it down to the bonfire and Vic and Monte headed back to the camp to get dinner started. Derek headed home with a hearty "THANK YOU!"
It sure was nice to relax after all that. Vic brought the ribs and shoulders of a young pig and man was it good eatin'. The sunset was particularly spectacular, but after it was over we did our front porch sittin' mostly inside depending on the variable winds. 2112 plucked some guitar and a good time was had by all.
Vic woke me up early and I made my big breakfast. Poor Monte was hurtin' so bad in the hip, he had to take off. So 2112, VJER, and I headed over to the site. They hit the platform and I loaded up the Mudda. Turns out one big load in the Mudda is about the amount I can fit in my truck bed. Milkjug got to the ramp just after I got the truck loaded and we took off for the drop site. We then headed back for another load. Primer and Redstikr showed and helped with that load, then they got after tearing up some stuff. Yan and I made the run tot he drop site. I thought we might squeeze in one more run, but it was not to be. I've learned that sometimes you've just got to roll with things, and with it being 2:30, it was time to get a meal for all the volunteers. So we loaded the Mudda up one more time, but this time with good usable lumber tagged for the future generator shed.
Back at the camp we unloaded and I got the boil going. 2112 had to leave before the meal, so I owe him one. We had boiled taters and sausage and polished off what was left of breakfast as well. I made sure to take a few minutes to sit and enjoy before we had to get packed and get in. Primer and Redstikr soon left as they had an appointment to buy a truck bumper. For the first time I can remember since getting the camp, someone else did ALL the dishes.
Thank you Milkjug for all the big help.
We headed in right at 5pm and again Yan was a huge help getting everything loaded up. It was a good weekend and a lot got done.
Major thanks to:
VJER Vic who was with me all the way. He made the whole thing go.
FlatoutFishin' Monte who gave up on the tourney and burned his hip out getting things done.
2112 Bert who backtracked to Home Depot for chainsaw blades and worked like a man half his age.
Boutyhunter Derek who drove the Green Machine all the way down just to haul stuff for us, AND came out to help load too.
Milkjug without whom today would not have happened so easily. Yan, you were a BIG help!
Primer and Redstikr who couldn't put in a lot of time, but they made every second count.
Guys, we really kicked some Ghost Camp butt. Beyond all the work contributions, what I always enjoy the most is the camaraderie. Y'all are tops for sure.
As to next weekend, I'll be taking either Friday or Monday off and spend 3 days out there. If anyone can offer help, please come on down. Our most absent partner, Steve will be making this trip, so one bed is spoken for. Hope to see y'all at the ramp. - Sandy

Luxuries the camp just couldn't provide.
