    Ok, I finally got the boat back this evening and it looks great! A huge improvement in appearance. I am very happy.

    Bad news is that the jack plate has now caused issues. My hole shot is as good as it was before, but now the RPMs are going too high. It hits 6000 RPM and I have to back off. Cruising at 5500 RPM it is only doing 25 MPH when it used to do 40 MPH.

    I have sent a plea for help to LouieB.

    Gotta get this worked out soon.

        Something doesn't sound right. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

          are you running with the jack plate up on a non tunnel hull boat? The cav plate should be even with the bottom of the boat or the top of the tunnel if the boat has one. Get me some pics of the engine on the transom. Once I see some pics I sure I can tell you what is wrong.

            Looks like the motor is at a good level, even with out the plate all the way down. What do you think Shock?

              it looks a little high to me. When you took the boat out did you run it with the jack plate down. if you prop is not built to surface with heavy cup that could be the reason why you are experiencing the speed loss due to prop slip.

                Scott, that is awesome you got your boat back. The fact that your engine is now offset by your jack plate, it has essentailly traped more air causing cavitation, hence loss of speed. You will probably need to go to a four blade.

                  Ran it with the plate all the way down. Went back and leveled the boat and motor. Cav plate is about an inch above the bottom of boat.

                    I have a jackplate (4" setback) on my semi-v skiff. My motor sits quite a bit higher that what you are showing. I am runnig a three blade. I have a hard time thinking that your prop is cavitating. Any chance you spun a hub. Put the prop back on, put the motor in gear and try to turn the prop. You may actually have to mark the hub and prop and run it, to see if it is spun. I will try to post a picture of my setup tonight.
