How Close Is Too Close To Anchor/Fish To Another Boat?

I agree, if people see were you are fishing and catching fish. Stay away from that side or area. But I have experienced that some that holler potlicker see you at a communal spot(his spot) and will rip thru your drift or were you are fishing. Growing up on the bay I never experienced this kind of fishing."It was the Law of the Sea, they said. Civilization ends at the waterline. Beyond that, we all enter the food chain, and not always right at the top."

I've got 6 or 7 honey holes in my little corner of what I consider my home waters. Fortunately most are locals and know these spots as well. If I get within eyesight and see the spot covered, I simply move on to another and return in an hour to pick up the fish they missed or gave up on. Works every time.

I thought the rule was 200yds. If I can see your eyes you are definitely too close. 2 cast lengths seems close to me but if we are talking about the Galveston Jetties I guess that is the norm for yall. I always try to stay away from people but sometimes you just got to fit in where you can on the weekends.

Jt,
I'll be down that way a lot more this year than I have the past couple. I'm gonna need $20/guy, free booze(vodka or whiskey) at the bar, and the green light on the pretty bartender."If our father had his say, nobody who did not know how to catch a fish would be allowed to disgrace a fish by catching him." And eyesight means...WITHIN eyesight.
If I can see you on the horizon, then just go ahead and turn that thing around."If our father had his say, nobody who did not know how to catch a fish would be allowed to disgrace a fish by catching him." Norman Maclean, from A River Runs Through It

Travis-Georgina quit a couple of years ago-you been up north too long and although you are 'outstanding in your field', I think ya stood too long in that field and your eyesight went bad.Originally posted by GHSmacker View PostJt,

Don't fish the jetties on the weekend. Good fisherman should be off the water by 10, 11, 12 if they're bout it .... I think ... I don't have a boat.
....... but we have had boats come up on us wading and you can tell they suck at life and fishing. All that water and you want to come up on our wading shoreline ........

Let me start by saying that I don't agree with people potlicking. However, there seems to be way too many hidden rules about fishing. I am looking at my personal view and I cant go fishing near as much as I want. Not all of us have the luxury to go during the week or even the weekend. So I do not know all these little secret holes on my own. I know the spots that everyone knows and some less common. I am all for finding my own spots and exploring to find them but I usually can fish about once a month and when I do go, I like to fish where I am comfortable. It does help that I yak fish so cruising by a boat usually isn't a problem as long as I go around. But I don't believe in the whole "my spot" deal. Yes, you may have found a spot that produces but why would you get mad if another boat sees you one day, leaves you alone, then try's it on his own on another day? As fishermen we should be willing to share the water and help each other out. We tend to make it too much of a pissing contest. Ultimately, just respect the distance from boat to boat (150-200 yds), enjoy God's creation, and share the experience!1 Corinthians 13
